Intrinsyc Announces WinWAP Browsing and MMS for Soleus-based Feature Phones |
Vancouver, BC - June 21, 2006 Soleus offers pre-integrated WinWAP Browser and WinWAP MMS Client in turnkey software platform for feature phone manufacturers. Intrinsyc Software International, Inc. (TSX:ICS) a provider of mobility software and services, and Winwap Technologies Oy, specialists in providing mobile Internet browsers (WAP) and multimedia messaging (MMS) software, today announce the availability of Winwap's WAP browsing and MMS technology for SoleusTM. Intrinsyc's Soleus is a turnkey feature phone software platform that leverages Microsoft® WindowsTM CE to enable faster and lower-cost handset development. Winwap worked closely with Intrinsyc to pre-integrate the WinWAP OEM Browser and WinWAP MMS Client together with Soleus, offering web and WAP services access and MMS functionality to manufacturers of Soleus-based feature phones. Soleus offers a new way to develop feature phones, allowing network operators and mobile phone manufacturers complete flexibility to build phones and customize them for target customer segments. At the heart of Soleus is a rich set of built-in feature phone applications including calendar, camera, contacts, dialer, file manager, media player and phone settings that can be quickly tailored to reduce time to market of the end product. In addition to these built-in applications, Intrinsyc partners with a select set of third-party independent software vendors that build best-of-breed mobile phone applications, to optimize them for use in Soleus-based phones. Through collaborating with Winwap, Intrinsyc now offers the WinWAP Browser and WinWAP MMS Client integrated in the Soleus software development kit (SDK). This allows Soleus licensees to evaluate the technology, test it for use with their in-house technologies and ultimately use it in a phone handset. The WinWAP browser is a full WAP browser application that provides access to WAP services, using direct connections to a network operator WAP gateway or proxy servers. The WinWAP browser supports WAP 2.0 and has a HTML Transcoding engine which converts received HTML to a mobile format so that users can view most regular web pages on a phone handset. The WinWAP MMS Client is a full multimedia messaging client that provides all the functionality required to send and receive MMS messages. It includes a powerful message composer and viewer capable of handling all standard mobile phone multimedia formats. Since Soleus is built on the Windows CE operating system and uses the Microsoft Visual Studio tool chain just like Windows Mobile, mobile application developers can target both the smartphone and feature phone market segments with minimal incremental effort and substantially increase their market opportunity. The WinWAP browser and WinWAP MMS Client run on Windows Mobile-based phones and through the Soleus ISV Partner Program, Intrinsyc supported Winwap's development team and assisted in porting the browser and MMS Client to Soleus. "Winwap is delighted to have been selected by Intrinsyc to pre-integrate our browser technology and MMS client with Soleus," said Mikael Krogius, CEO, Winwap Technologies. "We take pride in being at the cutting edge of mobile software technology and believe Soleus to be an innovative feature phone product that complements our product line well. We look forward to working with Intrinsyc and incorporating our browsing and MMS technology in future Soleus-based phones." "Soleus is designed to be an easy to use, turnkey solution for building feature phones and it is Intrinsyc's goal to include the best third party applications as part of the Soleus offering," said Randy Kath, Chief Technology Officer & VP Mobile Products Group, Intrinsyc. "Winwap are leaders in creating WAP browsers and MMS technology for Windows-based devices, making their technology a great fit for Soleus. We are pleased to be pursuing opportunities to develop Soleus-based handsets that include the WinWAP browser and MMS client."
