WAP Software Development Kit update |
The WAP SDK (Software DevelopmentKit) that is based on the technologies behind the WinWAP browser hasreached a new level, and more is to come within the near future. One ofthe largest changes in the SDK is that the WAP Stack has been partiallyrewritten for speed and stability, and on top of this it is now WAP 2.0compatible. At the same time it has been ported to new non-windowsoperating systems like Linux. The WinWAP SDK consists of several partswhere the main parts are the WAP Stack and the WinWAPX PRO (ActiveX)control. The WAP Stack is used for communications with WAP Gateways. With it anyhost application can connect to WAP Gateways and retrieve data fromURL's (Internet addresses). Furthermore the host application canreceive WAP PUSH messages and send or receive MMS messages (Multimediamessages). The technology that originally was available for Windowsonly has been successfully ported to Linux, and will soon be availablefor Solaris and HP-UX. Using a Java wrapper for the stack it can alsobe used from Java application on any of the operating systems that ithas been ported to. The WinWAPX PRO control gives host applications full WAP browsingcapabilities, including the WAP Gateway connectivity that is providedby the WAP Stack. Additionally direct HTTP connections can be used toretrieve pages. The control consists of everything one needs for WAPwith the exception of a fancy user interface. The control implements acanvas where content is rendered and where links are available forusers to click on. WinWAPX can also be controlled by the hostapplication totally without user interaction with the application. These technologies are based on the popular WinWAP browser, but muchfunctionality has been added to provide more benefit to hostapplications.
